She was the head of the Platonist School in Alexandria, where she also taught philosophy and astronomy. Her beliefs encouraged logic and mathematical study in place of empirical inquiry, and strongly enforced the need for governing laws in society. She was eventually killed by a mob after she was accused of exacerbating a political conflict in Alexandria.
